Marvel-ous Mondays: "Burn While You Learn!" by Gerber, Skrenes, and Mooney

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! We're headed back to Hell's Kitchen and Omega the Unknown! As cool as it is to see a rock-'em sock-'em dust-up between Omega and Electro, the thing that grabbed Teen Groove was when we looked at young James-Michael's trials and tribulations at school. As Ol' Groove has said before, the "real life" stuff in OtU was waaaaay more scary than a bad guy in green tights could ever be. From Omega the Unknown #3 (April 1976), here's "Burn While You Learn!" by Steve Gerber, Mary Skrnes, and Jim Mooney!

  1. Groove, Electro was always a fav! If you ever want to feature him and covers he's on (especially spider man) I'll send you a no-prize suitable for framing!

  2. A strange and wonderful little series by the great Steve Gerber, who was not afraid to challenge his readers. The Marvel Universe would not have been the same without him.

  3. This title, released during an expansion of Marvel titles with a lot of innovation, was the dud of the bunch.

  4. I may be crazy, but does anyone else think that the splash page was pencilled by Gene Colan? Which would be especially odd, since he was rarely in the Marvel offices; I can't think of another instance when he was asked to do a fill in/correction page...

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
