Making a Splash: Aparo's Aquaman Adventures

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! We've rapped about the incredible Steve Skeates/Jim Aparo era of Aquaman in his own mag during the early Groovy Age, but what about the King of the Seven Seas' return to glory in the pages of Adventure Comics (issues 441-452, July 1975-April 1977). Short-lived glory you say? Naw, this run in Adventure was so good it lead to the revival of Aquaman's own mag--which we'll rap about another day. 'Til then, enjoy these awesome Aparo illoed Aquaman in Adventure splashes!

Admiring Adams: "A Concept for Superman's Future" by Neal Adams

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Way back in 1972, I remember my folks reading a newspaper article to me saying that Metropolis, Illinois, had declared itself the official hometown of Superman. There's a statue there in front of the courthouse, and every year there's a "Superman Celebration". Even the local paper is called the Metropolis Planet. Another thing I remember hearing way back then, but it never came to fruition, was the possibility of a Superman theme park. Neal Adams must have heard those same rumors, 'cause he was inspired to design his own Superman theme park, as lucky owners of Limited Collectors' Edition #C-31 (July 1974) learned when we cracked open those tabloid sized pages...

The Grooviest Covers of All Time: Bob Layton Made Me Buy These!

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Ya know, not only was Bob Layton one of the best plotters, writers,  and inkers of the Groovy Age (yeah, he's still around and he's still great, but ya know what I mean...), he could also pencil and ink the daylights out of a comicbook cover! In fact, some of the best covers of the late 1970s were produced by Bodacious Bob! Iron Man, Power Man and Iron Fist, and many other Marvel Mags were just leaping off the racks thanks to Bob's magic pencil and brush!
How many of these did you snatch up?

Nobody, I mean nobody can give things a metallic sheen like Mr. Layton! Am I right, or am I right?
